EXAMPLE 1 ENGRAVING
ORIGINAL LACQUER

Above the 1959 King Zephyr Tenor has it's original deep sharp engraving. Most engraving is done on horns after they have been lacquered. Some manufacturers spray a light finishing coat of lacquer over the engraving when it is finished to protect it from tarnishing and keep the horn looking uniform.

RELACQUERED

Above is a similar 1959 King Zephyr Tenor, notice that the engraving details are missing and have been lacquered over. Manufacturers tend not to buff off the engraving they just put on a sax before delivery, so as a rule you will practically never see missing or faded engraving on a newly manufactured sax.
